Nintendo DS

Hand Held Duel-Screen Fun

November 21, 2004 Be there or be square! That will be a day that will live in gaming infamey forever. That's right that will be the day to go out and buy Nintendo DS. Yes I know you loved your Game Boy SP and GBAs, but the Nintendo DS will be the one hand held to rule them all. Forget the hype of Sony's PSP - that won't even be out till next year here in the states. Forget the odd faddish things nintendo has relesed in the past a.k.a. the Virtual Game Boy (or Game Boy VR). This one is for realsies. the bottom screen is touch sensitve for analog goodness, plus you'll never have to pull out that map screen it'll always be there now! Personnally I'm looking forward to the Animal Crossing DS but that woun't be out for a few months. But it looks almost as good as the GameCube version and that is saying something. It's supposed to have all the same good features and fun little mini-games.

But hey what do I know? heres my top ten reasons to get the Nintendo DS(NDS):

  1. Wireless hooking up, perfect for chat or just some good ol multi-player
  2. Multi-player Super Mario 64 DS
  3. Analog touch screen
  4. Animal Crossing DS
  5. reasonably priced compared to the PSP(starting at $149)
  6. the PSP won't be out till next year
  7. it's better than that stupid N-gage crap
  8. can you imagine a multiplayer or even updated with new goddies LoZelda Orcana of Time for this thing
  9. Animal Crossing DS what can I say I love this game
  10. Wireless Chat

In Jolly old England

A REPORT this morning in games trade journal MCV has suggested that the Nintendo DS games console will launch at £129.99 in the UK when it arrives in March. This is in stark contrast to the reasonable $149.99 that it will cost when released on November 17 in the US, which equates to around £80 with the current dollar conversion rate. Whilst at £80, it's a no-brainer gadget for anyone interested in gaming, at £130, you're going to have really want it, and the higher price point will surely endanger its pervasiveness. Nintendo's current console, the Gameboy Advance SP, sells for £65.

Meanwhile, a homebrew coder has published NDSemu.com, which has a working beta of a DS emulator. There are no games available for the device yet, so how well it works we are yet to find out. The program appears to be legit, however, and we've have had a play with it by running a couple of available demos which look quite funky. We suspect that Nintendo will be stomping all over this as soon as it can, now its done suing poor porn users.
